1298 A.D.:  Jacobus De Voragine, who wrote the hagiographies (life stories) of over 150 Saints titled The Golden Legend, dies on this year.

Born in Genoa, Italy, Jacobus became a member of the Dominican Order in 1244 A.D., and remained such for over 50 years.  He collected hagiographies of important saints whose lives preceded his and this collection, referred to as the Golden Legend, later became one of the best sources on the lives and actions of many medieval era saints.  The following link takes you to a site where you can choose from several versions of this and read it on line.  It was once one of the most widely read writings in Europe outside of the Bible.  Then came the age of science, when things of God were looked down upon as fables for the simple minded.  If you are a Christian believer, or at least somewhat open minded, you may find it an enjoyable read.  I cannot vouch or disclaim the veracity of the writings, of course.  They are famous writings by a famous ancient Christian.  Copy and paste this in the URL box, and don't forget to make it a favorite on your computer as you probably won't read it all in one sitting!
