The Ipuwar Papyrus...is it describing the 10 plagues preceding the Exodus? Experts disagree about it.
There is an ancient Egyptian document called the Ipuwer Papyrus, that some say describes the aftermath of the 10 plagues of Egypt described in the Bible. There are parts of it that allow for that to be a possibility, and it certainly does describe an Egypt that has come to be in a calamitous and ruined state. An Egypt suffering a horrific national emergency where there society has melted down for some reason not exactly stated in full. As for its age, some sources put it at around 1250 B.C., but claim that the text within it may have been passed down from more like the 1800's B.C., more like Abraham's to Jacob's time! Even 1250 B.C. is a little bit recent for it to be speaking about the 10 plagues by most reckonings, yet there are scholars who put the Exodus in that time period. There was also a bad drought in the days of Ruth and Naomi in the Bible. Perhaps it is related to that, and Egypt just happened to experience it as well? But whatever the cause, this describes a very bad period of time in Egypt indeed! Here is a link to one translation of it.
